To be used as the brand-name drug, the active ingredient (in each 24-tablet) must be Esomeprazole. The recommended dosage is esomeprazole 20-40 mg. If the patient cannot swallow tablets, the tablet should be swallowed whole with a glass of water. For patients who cannot swallow tablets, a patient should take 20-40 mg of Esomeprazole with a full glass of water. The usual starting dose is 20 mg, taken at least 1 hour before activity. Depending on patient response and tolerability, a second dose of 20 mg or less may be given. Warnings
The use of Nexium should be justified in patients with severe heart failure. Esomeprazole 20-40 mg may be used only in patients with severe heart failure. Do not use esomeprazole 20-40 mg in patients with severe heart failure due to potential side effects, including alementic renal failure. Esomeprazole 20-40 mg should not be used in patients with severe heart failure because of potential for adverse effects. Esomeprazole 20-40 mg should not be used in patients who do not tolerate or have unacceptable levels of this drug. The patient should be monitored carefully during treatment and periodically thereafter. Esomeprazole should not be used concurrently in the treatment of gastric reflux disease, peptic ulcer disease, or gastric or duodenal ulcer disease because of potential for adverse effects or drug interactions.

A new study suggests that the most common side effects of esomeprazole are stomach pain and nausea, heartburn and vomiting.
The study, which was presented at the American College of Gastroenterology meeting in San Francisco, said it shows that esomeprazole causes more stomach pain and nausea than the usual drug.
A total of 723 people were included in the study who were prescribed a new medicine containing the active ingredient esomeprazole, the team said.
In the group, those taking the drugs had a significantly higher risk of stomach pain than those taking the non-drug medication.
They also had more heartburn and vomiting than people who did not take the drug.
“The results show that esomeprazole can have a similar effect on gastrointestinal side effects as the usual anti-heartburn drug,” said Dr. Susan J. Allen, a gastroenterology associate professor of medicine at the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Medicine.
